It all started in 1999, when the building that had been the club’s home for 10 years prior was anonymously donated to Columbia College.  It has taken the following 20 years to search for a new location.  Buddy Guy was approached with the opportunity to purchase the building at 700 S. Wabash Ave and he is now the sole owner and proprietor of the venture. 

With the purchase, Buddy had a few requirements, “The main stage had to be on the first floor with a corner entry, a first class kitchen, an expansion of the southern-inspired menu, the decor had to match the original with blue walls and a checkerboard patterned floor,” insisting that, “A blues club is kind of old and funky.”

The original Legends opened in 1989 following Guy’s performance at the Chicago Blues Festival in which he invited festivalgoers to his new “home of the blues.”  Those who have previously graced the stage include The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Junior Wells and B.B. King.

The Blues legend will travel the U.S. non-stop through the end of February, and after a few March stops, he will travel Australia and Canada through April and then heads back to the U.S. for the summer.

Guy kicks off his ambitious touring schedule in Hollywood, Florida, with King on Feb. 2 before they make their way throughout North America and Australia. Guy’s last tour date listed on his Web site is for August 14 in Valley Center, California.

King’s tour continues to be in support of his 2008 album “One Kind Favor.” He’ll also continue his tour after splitting with Guy in May, and has two dates scheduled for Nov. 3 and 5 in Oregon and Canada, respectively.
